Wisdom #24: 24 things I learned before 24

24. People will read blog titles with numbers in them.

23. Sometimes, you are going to have to settle for a low paying job. Despite your fancy degree or other qualifications.

22. You will learn valuable skills at this low paying job. The kind of things that I'm able to handle now are because of the days I felt like crying and running in the opposite direction to my job site. The money is small but, in some weird way, the skills and resilience you will learn are invaluable.

21. High school was not the last you would have seen of adults behaving like a$$holes. I've seen some adults do and say some things that make childish secondary school girls look like Oprah. People will be who they want to be.

20. It is not too late to change your mind about the field you're in.

19. Cleaning and cooking delicious meals are actually not that hard.

18. Rent and other responsibilities are a priority. Ducking them is not cute. Managing finance through a budget is necessary and useful.

17. When you live alone, it's crucial to be pleasant to those around you. You never know when you may have to ask a complete stranger for a phone call in the middle of the night in your 'nightie' because you locked yourself outside.

16.  It doesn't matter if you get along or not, there is no other group of people who will have have your back unconditionally until the end of time like your family.

15. Make time for your family. Show them how much you appreciate them even with the little you have now. Life is so fragile.

14. Parents are not superheroes. They made/ are making mistakes just like you are. Put yourself in their shoes.

13. Forgive. Forgive. Forgive. Life is too short to hold grudges against the ones you share blood with.

12. Forgive yourself.

11. Relationships end. People grow apart. Life is about feeling all the feelings. Allow them all to come and go. You WILL grow through it.

10. Never hold onto a dying friendship/ relationship for fear that you will never find anyone else. This is the BIGGEST lie. Life goes on. You will meet more people who are different and have beautiful qualities that you'll appreciate as well.

9. It is okay to say no to drama. Not everyone who tries to befriend you should be a friend. Protect you. Protect you!

8. No regrets. Once you learned a lesson, it was worth it!

7. Make wise decisions. 99.3% of the time. Yes, life is about experiences but remember that what you do/ don't do at this point will affect your future.

6. It is okay to decide that someone is not worthy of your time. It doesn't make you conceited.

5. This is your journey and, like natural hair curl patterns, no two journeys are identical.

4. Life goes on, unfortunately. Life goes on, fortunately.

3. Knowing what helps you on days when you can't see the light is crucial.

2. There is such a thing as 'too nice'! Stand up for yourself. Some people need to see that the lioness is alive and well despite the gentle exterior. Know when to say NO. Also, know when to ask for help.

1. We can do hard things. We can get degrees, make major life changes, get back up after failure, get over devastating news, failed relationships and even forgive when it seems impossible. We can do hard things.
